Play the economy, not the battle

In most mobile strategy games, the match is often won before the fighting really starts. Players who invest early in income out-scale players who spend everything on their first army. It feels risky, but the math is brutal.

I like to set a rule for myself: no offensive spending until my resource generation is stable. That usually means a couple of tense early minutes where I'm just defending with the bare minimum while my economy grows.

The counter-play matters too. If someone is turtling into an economy, you sometimes have to punish them fast before their advantage snowballs. Reading which game you're in is half the skill.

None of this needs perfect execution on a touchscreen. It just needs discipline, and discipline is the one thing you can practise for free.
